It's official: I'm a geek

Last week, I went to a local Chinese restaurant with MB. After we ordered our food, I (oh my God, it hurts to write this) ducked out on her for a few minutes to (argh!) run to the RadioShack next door. I was looking for a part for my latest photography project. The other Radio Shack near me didn't have the part, but I thought maybe this one would. That's right folks: I left an attractive and intelligent female so I could... buy electronic parts. Way to go, Casanova! The upside to all of this is that I now have a homemade laser-beam camera trigger, complete with electronic delay unit. Lasers, homemade electronic circuits, automated camera shutter release. If I tried to measure the geek-factor of this, I would break the Geek-O-Meter.

Pen Macro

Continuing with my "Photographic Cliché" theme, tonight we have "macro of a ballpoint pen". I had to wait a few days to try this one, because I needed to purchase a reverse-mount lens adaptor. (I reverse-mounted an old Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 lens on my new Canon EF-S 15-55mm lens for this shot).

Maybe it is time for me to fix all the broken links here on markrebuck.com, then add a photography section?

Furniture

The other day, I moved my computer desks from my dining room to my 2nd bedroom. The gaping hole created by their absence is SCREAMING for me to finally act like a grown up and buy a kitchen table. So my plan for today was to pick a table... I've been to a few different stores but haven't pulled the trigger on a purchase.

What did I do instead? I spent the day recovering from a hangover and playing with my camera. Instead of having a kitchen table to show for my efforts, I'm stuck with:

Cliché's R Us

I can't help myself. I have to try every photographic cliché in the book. I've already done the "artsy shot of pet" cliché, so tonight I decided to go for the "water splash" cliché.

New Toys

I finally broke down and bought a new camera. My new toy is a Canon Digital Rebel XT, to which I added a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens for better bokeh in portrait shots. Dreyfus, camera-slut that he is, was more than willing to play it up for the camera. Two of the first ten shots from the camera are pictured below. I promise, I'll start working on something like Oliver, Daily just as soon as I can get a few hours of leisure-coding time.
